| Review: Joe has been well received in American premiere at Austins SXSW Film Festival. Movies David Gordon Green, based on Larry Brown's novel, filmed in the Austin-area. The film is a dark, brooding, intense and ultimately depressing. The story of a local wood supervisor? Joe - who is trying to save the 15-year-old drifter with alcohol abuse and harassment father and a violent knew from the outset that there is no way for it to really work out. The film is a little too dark and a little too slow as it moves into what seems like the end of the bitter inevitable. I think it could use some editing to speed up the pace a little. Performed by Nicholas Cage as a foreman Tye Sheridan and young children? Fresh from his success in the mud with Matthew McConaughey? excellent. By the way, it reverses the characters in the mud Tye Sheridans any character who tries to save an older man; Joe, the situation is quite the opposite. The film is difficult to watch at times and difficult to call fun, but the story is to stay in power. It is hard to imagine that a lot of dark film to cinematic success. Green is often cast locals in his film. In corollary sad, but perhaps appropriately, take a local homeless man Green, Gary Poulter, plays an important role on alcoholic father. Poulter on the streets of Austin died two months after the end of the movie. It is a powerful film, but I doubt I'll ever want to watch it again. |
