Review: It is absolutely shocking that this movie came out in todays market. The dialog was horrible: cliché and predictable. The entire film was, in fact, predictable. We saw the previews, we went to the film, and about ten minutes in we knew it was bad. We gave it a chance, hoping it would get better, that it would redeem itself in some way. It did not. It got worse. If you are just looking for an entertaining film, this is a major disappointment, to say the least. Obvious special effects, slow motion for every other move in every fight scene, and terrible, I mean tragic, dialog. If you are a fan of Greek mythology, its downright offensive. Dont waste your time or your money.

Review: If you liked Four Weddings and a Funeral, then the similar mix of humour and pathos of Pride will really grab you. And if you fumed at the injustice of it all in Made in Dagenham, and cheered the women workers on as they made their hard-fought bid for fair play, then youll love this film. Its an amazing bit of political and social history brought alive on the screen, and great entertainment to boot.I lived in South Wales during the miners strike, and the characters in Pride were really well portrayed. They werent twee, or stereotypes. They were wholly believable.Absolutely loved it.

The discoveries of the hidden artwork has little dramatic impact, nor do the interpersonal relationships between the characters which in the movie are shallow. Even the attempt at romance comes off as tepid and half-hearted, as well as implausible. The idea of a young, handsome, married American officer, alone in Paris, having dinner in the apartment of an attractive, intelligent, single French woman who made him dinner and not staying for at least another drink is a stretch. True, he is married and his faithfulness is commendable, but still .... The movie does have some strong dramatic moments, but in general the story is bland. Yet despite the movies drawbacks, it still manages to tell a story about an historical event of great importance and significance, and for that reason alone is worth watching.

Review: I found The Spectacular now to be a very refreshing movie to watch. Weve all seen the coming of age high school romance blahblahblah thing before, but the film takes you where you didnt expect it to go, and that is one of the qualities that makes it a great experience.Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley are fantastic, particularly Woodley. I dont know how you cant be a fan of Teller, he is his usual self in this one and adds even more depth to himself. Woodleys as real as it gets in her performance. I didnt notice it until my second viewing in terms of how natural she was, but she was terrific.Those two are already great to cast as leads, but its always fun when the casting for anything is just all around fantastic. Tamper your expectations a bit because its all about the leads in this one, but Coach Taylor, Bubbles, and Saul Goodman are great in the limited time they are on screen. I mean, Kyle Chandler, Andre Royo, and Bob Odenkirk.The emotional impact of this film really hit me towards the end, and certain factors are very predominant in the movie that you definitely do not expect. Without spoiling anything, Ill just say take away a lot of the laughs you were expecting, and brace yourself for the feels and a very serious tone. This may damper some who came for this because its from the dudes who did 500 Days of Summer, but Its still very good and the movie is actually funny in the spots it wants to be.Overall, I think this is absolutely a film you want to see. Where the story goes widens the appeal of this movie by far in my opinion, so if you were just not going to see it or judged it by the trailers, dont. Give it a shot.

Review: Brilliantly acted, superbly written and as one would expect from a picture by Martin Scorsese, it is a masterclass of directorial craft.Showy when it needs to be, but also quiet and contemplative. The Wolf of Wall Street is the equivalent of something like Good Fellas or even more so Casino but set in the world of finance. The suits might be more expensive but the people who wear them are just as sick and violent as their street-mob counterparts. Sardonic in humor and unflinching in showing the depravity of its characters, it marks somewhat of a different approach to the world of stock-trading than Oliver Stones Wall Street.Where Stone seems more in line with Bertold Brecht who considered theater (or in this case film) a moral institution, does Scorsese take the position of the omnipresent observer of the dark side of the American and in many cases the human dream.Leonard DiCaprio gives another stellar performance of great intensity and even greater tragedy while this tale of corruption, greed and self-righteousness unfolds.Its a vast panorama that shows how during the last twenty-five to thirty years gullibility as well as our innate greed make all of us accomplices in this never-ending pyramid scheme far away from any reality.One could almost hear Scorseses clerical background come to the fore again, according to which nobody is without sin, and therefore we are all susceptible to corruption.It is our decision on which side we choose to live that makes the difference. For every individual but also society as a whole.

Review: Kat is a 17-year-old girl in the suburbs, growing up in the late 1980s and observing her parents dysfunctional marriage at close hand while trying to cope with first love, relationships, sex and friendships - all the growing pains that being 17 involves. When her mother disappears one day, the police think shes probably run off, perhaps with a boyfriend; Kat thinks her mother just got so fed up with her boring, empty, perfect-housewife life that she finally left it to find something better. Kat herself doesnt know how she feels about that; truly, she doesnt really feel much of anything, especially because her mother had recently been so intrusive in her life. Her father seems meek and lost after her mother leaves, but both of them will eventually have to pick up the pieces and go on. If only Kat would stop having those disturbing dreams about where her mother might be....This is really far more of a coming-of-age story than it is anything else; aside from some dream images, theres very little that would fit the term fantastical, even though I saw it at Montreals Fantasia Festival. There is some very fine acting, from Eva Green as the mother, Shailene Woodley as Kat, Christopher Meloni as Kats father and Thomas Jane as a police detective, and both writer/director Gregg Araki (from the novel by Laura Kasischke) and the cast do a very good job of capturing that confusing stage of adolescence, where one is not quite fully grown up but is certainly not at all a child anymore either. I very much enjoyed the film, even if Fantasia is an odd place to see it!

Review: The idea for this film was really simple and had the potential to be hilarious, there was endless options for hilarity to ensue but really never got out of 1st gear.I would say there are a lot of chuckles but no laugh out loud moments, there are a lot of missed opportunities where your expecting it to get so out of hand you will fall of your seat laughing but the joke ends up just being done very averagely and not amounting to anything.Jake Johnson is clearly a poor actor, I know he was in new girl and people like that but he comes across as a smug, arrogant unfunny individual who is as likable as Hitler. He has no comedic timing, he is a poor clone of Rogan and many others but just a poor, poor, poor relation. Awful acting throughout, annoying voice and just plain poor.Wayans junior is the definition of irony. He clearly learnt all his acting off his dad, where as other Wayanss branched out and had mild success on their own merit, this guy is a clone of his dad, from camp acting to over the top serious moments. Again this guy had zero likability and zero charisma, neither guy was appealing and I frankly couldnt care less about either, I felt no sympathy for their hardships they were just lazy unmotivated idiots that have ruined there own lives which deserves no sympathy.It was an average failure of a film, a bargain basement DVD at best, its watchable but very, very poor.

Review: This movie was both fun and terrifying. Jake Gyllenhaals performance as Lou Bloom will certainly frighten you. He is brilliant when paired with the amazing monologue style rants written for him.Lou Bloom is a driven man reminiscent of a sociopath who finds he has a talent as nightcrawling in that he takes videos of true crimes as they are happening to be broadcast on the news. His motivation and seeming lack of empathy allow him to break through and take the controversial images, and sell them with a strong aptitude for negotiation.As a character, he grows more and more motivated and seems to learn his business in such a way to bring him amazing success, but to the determinant, perhaps, of his assistant and the victims of these crimes.The writer/ director of this movie (making his directorial debut) certainly understands fear and comedy. The simplest scene was made into a laugh by the angles and cuts.Its funny, and enjoyable, but still terrifying enough to feel like a real horror thriller.
